Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. -Romans 12:15 ESV
“Peopling” can be exhausting to those who are anti-social or who are already worn out by life’s challenges, or other reasons. For me, I love people but it’s my habit to have some time to regroup and sort out the day and hear the Lord as I settle. That time may look like a few minutes some days. Secretly, I’m seeking a “Sound of Music” moment from the scene where Maria (AKA Julie Andrews) is alone in the mountains with a spectacular view and spins around with her arms up and belts out “The hills are alive with the sound of music.” It looks free and refreshing, but does this mean since I haven’t arrived at the hills that I should forget the burdens of others or moments to rejoice with them? I have found that when my eyes are focused on the Lord, He shows me I need to be observant and sensitive to the Spirit of God guiding me and allow Him to help me see those who are carrying burdens or need someone to rejoice with them whether I’m on a mountaintop or in a valley.
Heavenly Father, You are holy and all-knowing. Thank You for Your word that tells us to not only look to our interests but also the interests of others as we bear with one another in love. May You be glorified as we trust You to work in and through us for Your glory and purpose.
