Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent.” - John 6:29 (NASB)
I see bumper stickers with the word “Believe” and I’ve often wondered what do they want me to “Believe” in? I looked up the definition on Wordnik and “believe” is described as 1. To accept as true or real, 2. To credit with veracity, 3. To expect or suppose; think. I proceeded to research what the Bible says about ‘Believe” and found there are many scriptures on the topic and the word “believe” is written throughout the Bible.
Recently, someone asked me how one would know which religion is the truth, and I responded with “that is a good question.” Afterward, these scriptures came to mind “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” - Romans 10:17 and “It is written in the prophets, ‘AND THEY SHALL ALL BE TAUGHT OF GOD.’ Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father, comes to Me. - John 6:45 (NASB)
When others are questioning truth amid an endless assortment of gods, I get excited because Jesus says, “No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day.” - John 6:44 (NASB). I believe God draws people to Jesus which brings them to God.
Believing is an important part of our faith as a follower of Christ, “Yet to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.” -John 1:12
Heavenly Father, thank You that You draw us to Jesus, and You make a way for us to understand the truth in our listening heart. Be with those who may have a crisis in their faith, help them believe in You and that You love them, help us all to surrender our lives into Your hands to accomplish Your will in us.
