You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Isaiah 26:3 ESV
I looked up the phrase ‘Don’t lose your marbles’ on phrasefinder.com which describes several meanings of this phrase and where it originated. I will stick with how I understood the phrase to mean and basically, it relates to not losing one’s mind or composure.
When my daughter was little a friend from church gave us a marble. He remarked, “Don’t lose your marble.” With that instruction, I packed it in my bible cover, where it has been for 20 years. It has worn a hole in the pocket so I moved it to another pocket. Recently, I was getting out of my truck at church, I dropped my bible and saw a marble that looked just like mine rolling across the parking lot, thinking, that looks like mine. I grabbed it and it was my marble. I guess I did lose my marble.
Sometimes things happen to us where we lose our “marbles” and that’s a good time to check if there are any holes and move our thoughts, actions, attitudes, etc. to the truth. Sometimes that may lead to repentance once we see our part or it may be circumstances beyond our control. In my case, the marble was given to me at the time my daughter was 12 and was diagnosed with cancer. I knew I needed to be there for her, rely on God, and not lose my marbles, not in front of her. Whatever the case may be, possibly emotions run high, or nothing goes right and we can’t understand why things are happening, God wants our minds fixed on Him, He will help us stay focused and in peace when we feel like we are losing our marbles.
Heavenly Father, thank You that You are truth. Thank You, that You are with us, and You direct us to the right place whether in our hearts, minds, or physical. Help us to see that You are creating something new in us and we can trust You as Your will is done.
