Sometimes We Don’t Have the Answer

The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our sons forever, that we may observe all the words of this law. - Deuteronomy 29:29 (NASB)

Facing loss and hardship can leave us searching for support and answers. The story of Job often comes to mind during my own struggles. He endured tremendous loss and health challenges, unaware of the conversation between God and Satan that led to his suffering (Job 1). Yet, despite the pain and negativity from those around him, Job held onto his faith and declared, “And to man He said, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; And to depart from evil is understanding.’” (Job 28:28).

It’s natural to feel a range of emotions during tough times, and you may encounter people who offer unwise advice or suggest blaming God. While we may not always have answers for our suffering, our experiences can inspire and uplift others, often when we least expect it. While Job loved God, he wasn’t without emotions that came through suffering; in his suffering, he was steadfast in his love of God. God revealed His character during Job’s suffering. God may offer no explanation and wants us to come to a deeper level of trust in Him, whether we understand or not. References: Job; Ecclesiastes 12:13; Proverbs 1:7; 2:8-9. Ultimately, God calls us to deepen our trust in Him, even when understanding seems out of reach. Remember, you are not alone in this journey.

Heavenly Father, thank You for allowing us to see the bigger picture of Job’s story, though he was unable to see the hidden details, You have revealed some to us. May we be encouraged even though we may not understand why. May we press on through our story of faith so that we and others may trust in Your will and who You are.
