“And He went a little beyond them, and fell on His face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as You will.” - Matthew 26:39
The cup passed to Jesus was His to bear. He accepted His Father’s will for you, and me. That meant He must sacrifice not only His will, but Himself. When I think about this, I can feel a battle going on within me between my flesh and spirit. One hears the voice of the world telling me “It’s all about me, my dreams, my goals…” No wonder I struggle. What will it take for the Lord to bend me enough so I willingly fall on my face to pray “not my will but Your will be done?” I have been on my face before begging Him to change my circumstances. Needless to say, I need to give up my cup of self and ask Him to transform me into one who lives for His will and not my own.
Is there a cup you are holding that may be filled with suffering, pride, confusion between your will and the Lords? Maybe you know a change must occur in you, in your circumstance but you aren’t sure what that is or what to do. Seek Him.
“Teach me to do Your will. For You are my God; let Your Spirit lead me on level ground.” -Psalm 143:10
Ask God to show you how to live out His will for you and His purpose.
