The Word of God

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. - Hebrews 4:12 (ESV)

There is a lot one can take from this scripture, especially if the Lord wants to reveal a way He communicates to us through His word, the Bible. A friend of mine was teaching her daughter a lesson as a young child and my friend explained to her daughter how God wanted her to behave and where it showed this in the Bible, and her daughter replied, “Well, can’t we tear that page out?”

I have experienced reading God’s word and the words speak directly to what is going on in my life, or explain what is going on in the world today and there are times when I read and I think, “Huh?” Either way, I do know that God does want us to seek understanding, wisdom, insight, and to discern between good and evil to live life, which can be found in these scriptures, to name a few - Proverbs 2:1-5; James 1:5; Philippians 1:9-10; 1 John 4:1.

If one is struggling with how to keep pure in a world tainted with temptations and things that pull us away from the truth of God, we can ask and get an answer; “How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to your word.” - Psalm 119:9.

There are scriptures that teach us how to overcome struggles in life, through examples of those in biblical times, and through Christ’s sufferings, examples and instructions. God says there are some who will not understand His word because they do not know Christ, “The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.” - 1 Corinthians 2:14 (ESV)

Whether we are new followers of Christ or ones who have matured in His teachings and still seek His living word, or someone who wants to tear out the pages which would help us grow, or maybe you are one who is curious and has not received Christ, these words are for you, for us all. Ask to be shown the truth, ask Christ to live in your heart and guide you. If you walked away from His teachings, ask Christ for forgiveness and to get you on the right track. He will. He loves you. (Romans 5:8; Zephaniah 3:17)

Whoever is wise, let him understand these things; whoever is discerning, let him know them; for the ways of the LORD are right, and the upright walk in them, but transgressors stumble in them. - Hosea 14:9 (ESV)

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your living word that is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, warning, correcting and training us in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16), may the hearts you have called be open to understanding and receive Your truth and see that You are our future and our hope. (Proverbs 23:18; Romans 15:13; Colossians 1:23; Hebrews 6:19; 2 Thessalonians 2:16)
