In His Hand

In whose hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind? - Job 12:10 (ESV)

It appears so many are going through struggles, if not us, then others we know or hear about. While pondering this, the Lord guided me to think about Job and how he lost his children, his health, his livestock, his servants; and during this his friends were wrongly advising him, even his wife suggested he curse God; yet in Job’s deep sorrow, he understood that God holds the life of all living things and stated to his friends, “ask the beasts, and let them teach you; and the birds of the heavens, and let them tell you. Or speak to the earth, and let it teach you; and let the fish of the sea declare to you. Who among all these does not know that the hand of the LORD has done this…” (verses 7-9).

Like Job, we may not have a great support system as we go through struggles and feel we must defend ourselves from those who we hoped would comfort us, but learning from Job, he shows us that we can observe that God’s creation knows whose hand holds our life and breath.

Heavenly Father, thank You for sharing Job and for teaching us that we all struggle, and we can preserve our hope and trust You in spite of our pain, even though we may not understand the reason for our suffering. Thank You that You have given us Your creation to reflect Your truth.
