Restore Us

Restore us to You, O LORD, that we may be restored; renew our days as of old... - Lamentations 5:21 (NASB)

Everywhere I turn, I hear stories of how difficult peoples’ lives have become, whether it is sickness, death of a loved one, finances, broken relationships, dealing with difficult people, and I imagine the list can go on and on. I wish I could make everything all right with the snap of my finger or an instant answered prayer so others would have peace and comfort. But I honestly believe that in our suffering, God has a way of getting our attention, if we are aware. Maybe take this time to ask the Lord to reveal Himself in this crisis and to restore you to Him, maybe trust is an issue, maybe it is letting go of something that holds us back from running to Him.

I think of old cars when I think of restoring. I envision cars that used to run and were shiny, then after years of use they broke down, rusted out, and were left in an old barn somewhere. Then someone comes along and sees the beauty it once was and the potential to get it up and running again. God wants to restore us to Him; He sees our beauty through life’s rough roads and wants us to live for Him and wants to be at the wheel as He leads us to His will and purpose.

I know that each one of us has our own journey we are traveling, so I share this promise from the Lord in Jeremiah 24:7 “I will give them a heart to know Me, for I am the LORD; and they will be My people, and I will be their God, for they will return to Me with their whole heart.”

My hope is that all people will turn to the Lord, for the first time, or many times after breaking down, and heed His call. Will you make that decision today with your whole heart?

Father, restore us and cause Your face to shine upon us, grant those whom You have called to hear You and receive You, give them a heart to know You. (John 6:65).
