The Battle is the Lord's

“…O our God, will You not judge them? For we are powerless before this great multitude who are coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are on You.” - 2 Chronicles 20:12 (NASB)

We are living in a time when evil and wickedness seem to be taking over. Evil is called good and good is called evil. People who yell the loudest or say the snidest comments seem to prevail, or at least they may think so…

In the midst an upcoming invasion, in fear, Jehoshaphat called upon the Lord and proclaimed to all of Judah to fast. Then the people of Judah came together to seek the LORD in which Jehoshaphat affirmed the power of God within his prayer and his dependence on God. (Verses 5-12).

The Lord quickly answered through His prophet Jahaziel: “…thus says the LORD to you, Do not fear or be dismayed because of this great multitude. For the battle is not yours but God’s.” (Verse 15).

The Lord also gave instructions to go to an area where the enemy arrived for battle and to stand and not fight and to see the salvation of the LORD. Confident in the promise of the Lord, Jehoshaphat appointed some to sing and praise the Lord before the conclusion of the battle. When the singing and praise began, the Lord set up an ambush against the opposing army and they destroyed one another. When Judah arrived, the battle was already won.

I think about all the times I get fearful about what is ahead in this life and what is going on in the world. But now our fear has turned into confidence that God has a plan for us to come together as His people, and to call upon Him and He will fight this battle we are facing today. So, let’s praise Him for what He is doing and about to do because He is God.

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your power, Your wisdom, Your instructions. You are all knowing and nothing is impossible for You. May Your people be encouraged that You are able to fight our battle because You are with us as we put our trust in You.
