Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. -Hebrews 4:16 NKJV
I think it’s safe to say I was an outgoing child who developed early on without the guidance of a father or male figure. I was later blessed with a man who assumed my father's role. I didn’t realize at the time I was blessed because of my mother’s divided attention that took attention away from me and there were rule changes. I didn’t know how to have a relationship regarding my role and how to receive the rules and the love from this man. I knew that I preferred him to be married to my mother over any other possible suiters and I had made that clear. This inner relationship struggle carried over into other relationships with men and God. I couldn’t quite figure out how to be me and how to go to God without
comparing Him to my bad experiences with others.
Our past and present relationships and other life experiences can hinder how we perceive God and can skew how or if we approach His throne boldly for grace and mercy in our time of need. I had to learn that God’s offer for me to approach His throne confidently and courageously however risky it may seem would be an act of faith that I needed to step into to grow in my relationship with Him.
Whatever your situation, God came up with the idea to approach Him, it’s His way of showing His love for us, unlike anything we have ever known.
Heavenly Father, thank You for the invitation, may we confess what is holding us back from You as we take a leap of faith to Your throne in prayer. May others see You as we receive Your mercy and grace to share on behalf of what You have given us.
