The Voice of the Shepherd

My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” - John 10:27 (NASB).

Not knowing anything about sheep or shepherding. I decided to research the behavior of a shepherd with the sheep. I watched a video of a shepherd standing in a foggy field as he was calling for his sheep; a short time passed and off in the distance I could hear the sheep calling back. Breaking through the fog the sheep were running toward the voice of their shepherd.

I was surprised the sheep were running. As some of the sheep reached their shepherd, several looked up at him while some began feeding on grain he placed on the ground; meanwhile a latecomer ran toward him; then darted away to the partial flock that stayed their distance. The shepherd noticed the ones that hesitated watching from a distance. He said to the camera person; “They aren’t quite sure what is going on yet.”

Which of the sheep can you relate to? Jesus knows we are defenseless without Him and that we need guidance from Him. He wants to tend to you and me. He desires to know you. Will you recognize His voice when He calls?

Consider His words:

“I am the Good Shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.” - John 10:11 (NASB).

Like a shepherd He will tend His flock, in His arms He gathers the lambs, carrying them in the fold of His robe; He will gently lead the nursing ewes. - Isaiah 40:11 (NASB)

If you are like the sheep who “Aren’t quite sure what is going on yet.” Ask Jesus to reveal Himself to you and let Him know you want Him to be your shepherd and would like to trust Him.
