Where Do You Seek Refuge?

Updated: Aug 24, 2022

I will make justice a measuring line and righteousness the level; then hail will sweep away the refuge of lies and the waters will overflow the secret place. - Isaiah 28:17 (NASB)

I hadn’t thought of “refuge” connecting to lies. It makes sense, however, that we as people can seek protection and shelter in many ways, depending on the reason we are looking for cover. Some may hide behind lies for power, fear of the truth being revealed, shame and the list goes on.

It’s clear that the Lord will sweep away the lies that others hide behind and the truth will become evident because of the Spirit of God working in the secret places. Knowing this, I find comfort in Psalm 9:9 which says, “The Lord will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in time of trouble.”

May we turn from the temporary shelters we try to hide in and cling to the word of the Lord in Psalm 32:7 “You are my hiding place; You preserve me from trouble; You surround me with songs of deliverance.”

Lord, we turn to You and confess any sin that has kept us in a place of hiding other than under Your grace and eternal refuge; surely in a flood of great waters they will not reach us. Thank you for delivering us! (Psalm 32:6)
